8 goal thriller as United end their 6 game winless streak

Updated: Dec 14, 2022

Hayes and Yeading United dramatically end their six-game winless streak, scoring 5 past Swindon Supermarine in a 3-5 win over the Marines.

Hayes and Yeading United travel to Webbswood stadium home to Swindon Supermarine in a midtable clash between the two teams.

Jerry Wiltshire scores his first Hayes and Yeading United goal in Wiltshire as they come from behind in the first half to score 5 past Swindon goalkeeper Liam Armstrong.

It had been a six-game winless run for United, as they put the smiles back on the faces of the passionate travelling away fans.

Hayes and Yeading Manager Paul Hughes made several changes coming into this game following the 2-1 defeat by Hartley Wintney.

Things did not start as pleased for United, as only 12 minutes into the first half as a weak pass gifted the ball to Supermarine’s striker Harry Williams on the edge of the box, who bolts the shot into the far corner beating Dan Wilks.

Swindon was the stronger side in the first half, Hayes and Yeading had to wait until the 28th minute for their first shot on goal with Moses Emmanuel winning possession 25 yards out and firing the shot a goal which was just wide of the goal.

Eight minutes into the second half, a revitalised Hayes and Yeading hit back with Jerry Wiltshire scoring his first goal for United, with a thunderbolt of a ball from only 12 yards out.

Just 4 minutes later a good decision by the referee Mr Fudge who let United play on, following Sanmi Odelusi being knocked down from a Swindon freekick, saw United on a counterattack.

It was led by Cole Brown, who found Moses Emmanuel to the left of him, which in return played a one-two with Brown, who continued his run and the right-back fired the shot at the smallest of angles which hit the roof of the net making the score 2-1 to United.

A further 5 minutes later in the 65 minutes, United scored their third past Swindon Supermarine, with Reece Cole, slotting one away in the bottom corner from a wonderful cross from Emmanuel with the ball skimming over the defender’s head to land in the path of Cole.

Hayes and Yeading 2 goal lead only lasted a matter of seconds, as Harry Williams wriggled his way through the United defence and reduced the visitor’s lead to a single goal.

Seven minutes from full-time saw a late tackle from Mat Liddiard inside the box, which in turn brought down Moses Emmanuel, this saw the referee pointing to the spot with United now looking to put the game to bed.

Emmanuel stayed calm and collected and sent Liam Armstrong the wrong way, to restore the two-goal lead once again they once had, this goal also being his 50th goal for the club as well.

Again, the home side tried to fight back, which they managed with Will Tunnicliff, scoring in the 86th minute making it 4-3 with four minutes to go.

The Marines began to open up which led to Reece Coles’s second of the game as well as United’s fifth to seal off the afternoon and send the away fans back home all smiling.
