Hayes and Yeading continued their good form in the league with a dominant victory over Winchester City scoring 9 goals in their last 2 games, as Paul Hughes’ side scored a 4-0 victory.
United welcomed Winchester to the SkyEx Community Stadium on Saturday for the first-ever meeting between these two clubs.
Winchester was promoted from the Southern League - South Division last year up into the Southern League – Premier South and are currently having a good season.
Before this match, they were only one point behind Hayes and Yeading compared to the other promoted side, Plymouth Parkway, who sit only 2 places above relegation.
United’s manager Paul Hughes had the rare luxury of being able to start the same 11 that played against Swindon Supermarine, in their thrilling 5-3 win.
They got off to a good start with a goal only two minutes into the game from a corner taken by Reece Cole, which dropped nicely to Jerry Wiltshire, who strike it home, with help from a slight deflection as well.
This makes it two goals in two games for Wiltshire, who once again opens the scoring for Hayes and Yeading, but this time a lot faster.
Eight minutes in Winchester had their first chance of the game with Henry Brooks, who collected the ball on the right-hand side and managed to wriggle his way threw and had a shot on goal from inside the box.
United Keeper Dan Wilks dealt with the shot comfortably, from this less than 60 seconds later United were found at the opposing end.
Hassan Jalloh fed the ball forwards to Moses Emmanuel, and with a quick turn and change of pace freed him up and let one go, flying into the top corner of the City net with no chance for the goalkeeper.
18 minutes in Winchester had their best chance of the game and would have scored if not for the heroics of Jerry Wiltshire heading the ball from under the crossbar.
The game was quiet for the rest of the half, each team had a couple of half chances but nothing came to avail, as both teams did not look clinical enough at that stage of the game.
Winchester City manager Craig Davis must have had a passionate team talk, as the visitors came firing out of the blocks and looked like the better team for the beginning of the second half.
Within 10 minutes of the half starting, City had a magnitude of shots inside the box from IK Hill then Jamie Barron. But United’s defence held strong to keep a clean sheet.
Just past the hour mark, the on-loan QPR man Stan Flaherty slotted it past the oncoming Charlie Philpott and made it 3-0 scoring his first goal for the club.
This third goal seemed to put the game to bed with the visitors running out of steam and just hanging on.
The lack of motivation from the visitors saw another goal slip past them in the 86th minute, with substitute Adam Liddle, making a bold statement after returning from suspension by scoring his first goal for United.
Cheers were heard around the SkyEx stadium as Jamie Hanlon, came onto the field for the final few minutes returning from an injury which had put him out for over a year.
Massive credit to Jamie and the medical staff who put in the hard work to get him back to where he is now it’s one of those miracle stories that you hear about and shows why you should always never give up.
